The first week of our trip to Washington, D.C. was spent in orientation, getting hands on with our first set of artifacts, artist training, and a lunchtime presentation at the Cultural Resources Center. We also made our first visit to the Library of Congress, but we'll save that experience for another post. For this one, here are photos from our experience in the MSC where we handled artifacts in the
National
Museum of Natural History Department of Anthropology.

Amazing...the things beyond those doors |
|
It's great when you have someone who can get you past those doors |
|

Felicia Pickering, Collections Specialist, was our key to the vaults inside the National Museum of Natural History Anthropology department |

Much treasure in hall after hall. We were able to view select items, namely, all Choctaw ones they held |
|
We took over 500 photos in the short time we were there |
|
One of my favorites. Handled with care |

Getting shots of and the feel of every detail |

Stickball! |
|
Very cool handmade drums |
Hundreds of more detailed shots of the objects at the MSC are stored away for our further inspection as we write and tell the stories of our Choctaw history.

Being escorted through that High Security Door felt like a "National Treasure" moment. ;-)
